My Live Story
Funk & Jazz always felt like part of my family growing up. I remember at the age of 6, when briefly home alone, digging through my Dad's records to find funk drum solos. I ended up scratching his records but not in a good way hehe!
When I turned 18, my first Radio Show was on a Jazz Station. My brother, Chanan was a Jazz Guitarist and his love of 70s jazz funk fusion really influenced my show. I would begin the shows with funk, disco, jazz funk, acid jazz & jazz house but after midnight, when only the loyal listeners remained, I would push bands like The Weather Report & Return to Forever.
As a live DJ, I had always wanted to collaborate with live artists who had a gift for live improvisation. I had listened to other 'DJ Bands' but I often felt there was a lack of cohesion between the DJ and the musicians. My vision was to stage shows that really sounded like a rehearsed band while always remaining totally improvised, from the DJ journey to every note the musician played.
Being a Deep DJ, my live Projects, Future Funk & Mushroom Jazz also gave me much more protection from audiences who wished for music requests. Listeners tended to accept the presentation of my band but as lone DJ, it seemed people couldn't resist requesting inappropriate songs.
